Abstract

During a period of heavy rain in July 2012, specimens of a tiny eyeless carabid belonging to the genus Zeanillus were found in wet compost in a Timaru suburban garden. I discovered them while assisting my daughter with identifications for a high school science project looking at the effect of ground cover in suburban gardens influencing native invertebrate diversity.
